My daughter loves to help me bake goodies for our family & holidays so for her 6th birthday we decided to go with a cupcake theme. Along with the cupcake theme her favourite colour is pink so that was incorporated into the decorations. For the table we had a pink disposable tablecloth, cupcake paper plates, multi-colour striped napkins, clear plastic cups, pink & white striped paper straws, pink & white paper ice cream bowls to hold condiments & 3 pink honeycomb balls hanging from the chandelier. Other party decorations included a handmade pink "Happy Birthday" banner made from scrapbook paper & stickers, pink & white cardboard popcorn cups to hold utensils, a jug with pink strawberry milk, pink & yellow carnations housed in a mason jar & finally a cupcake themed mylar ballon. For the cake I decided to keep it simple and made a 3 layer chocolate fudge cake w/pink buttercream filling. It was adorned by multi-colored sugar sprinkles and homemade cupcake banner. Next it was onto the activities. When the kids first arrived they were given a cotton apron with a cupcake decal ironed on. There were fabric markers for them to decorate their individual aprons however they liked. Next, the kids played a dress up game with a baking theme. They were split into 2 teams. Each person had to put on all the clothing (apron, oven mitt, slippers, oversized sunglasses & hat) and run to the end & back. They continued this until everyone on their team had gone. The other team members were allowed to help dress them. It seemed to go over well with lots of laughs! Next we had some cupcake decorating. I had prepared 4 cupcakes (2 chocolate/2 vanilla) on little white plastic plates around the island for each child. There were striped pink, blue, yellow & white popcorn boxes to hold the different colour icing bags & the pink & white ice cream bowls for the pearls/candy & sprinkles. Hanging from the light over the island I had made little custom cupcake circles that said Elliot's Bake Shoppe" on them. Behind us on the stove/counter area there was a pink/purple banner and a sign also with "Elliot's Bake Shoppe" In front I had stacked all the different colour empty cupcake boxes (for the loot bag later on). I also had a cake I was making for someone else. It was a tiered purple cake that I hadn't decorated yet & it seemed to fit the theme so I put it on a cake stand beside the boxe.s When it was time to decorate the kids adorned their decorated aprons and went to town. When they were all finished we had lots of colourful creations ready to be boxed up to take home. Each of the child's 4 cupcakes were put in a box sealed with a cupcake sticker with their name on it. Their apron and a plastic cookie cutter were added and a ribbon tied around all of it to finish it off and keep it all together. These were given to each of the kids as their "loot bag" to take home. FInally, the food! The party was in the afternoon between lunch & dinner so we just went with snacks for the kids. There were strawberries & grapes, cheese, crackers & meat sticks & Chicago Mix popcorn. Water & Strawberry milk were the drinks of choice & of course cake to finish it off :-) All in all the kids had lots of fun & my daughter had a great day!
