Thankfully my son has lots of Minecraft items & I was able to pull many of the decorations from his stash like the paper cube stone, dirt & grass blocks on either side of the table. I also made a banner of these boxes to hang across the top of the window behind the table. On the sideboard I had bought a Minecraft poster which I placed on the mirror (dual purpose as he could hang it in his room later :-) with regular balloons in Minecraft colours on either side. I had a free printable for a Minecraft "Happy Birthday" banner which I also hung across the mirror. For dessert I made a cake to resemble the "Minecraft pixel " cake on the game placed it on a white cake stand with light/dark green paper shreds around the base and a a plastic "Steve" figure beside it as well as chocolate chip cookies with the appropriate Minecreaft nametag. I had black plastic cake plates , dark green napkins and Red forks in one of the green plastic cups from the table. For drinks there was Water and Chocolate Milk (Fire Resistance Potion). To finish off the sideboard I used Ethan's cardboard Minecraft chest from his collection to hold the "loot bags" with a plastic Enderman hanging out of it. The loot bags consisted of 3 different types of Minecraft Blocks cutouts for the kids to fold together, a small packet of pop-rocks candy & a glowing sucker, both in Minecraft colours. I topped them off with a Minecraft "Thank You" Sticker.
Activities
To start off I used the same activity I had used for my 7 Year old daughters party this year but with a Minecraft theme. I placed a long sheet of packing paper across the floor with markers for the kids to draw their own Minecraft world. This was a great activity for them to do while we waited for all the kids to arrive. When they had tired of that we headed to the kitchen where I had set up the ingredients for make your pizzas. Each of the kids added their sauce & toppings to their individual pizza crust (Naan bread). While the pizzas baked in the oven my husband played the scavenger game we had set up prior to the kids arrival. We used items found in Minecraft that we had lying around the house & made it a set time/race to make it more fun & challenging since most of the kids were 10. The winner got a pack on Minecraft stickers. The hunt was completed just as dinner was cooling so next was dinner & cake. After dinner Ethan opened his presents (surprise surprise....most of theme had to do with Minecraft) & took pictures with all of his friends. Finally for the last hour we sent them all to the basement to play Minecraft on the Xbox. There were 7 kids total & on this game 4 players can play at a time so the kids were instructed to switch out if someone was killed or had been on for a while. I would check in every so often to make sure this was happening :-)
